What is this site?
An independent archive of people killed in the crackdown on the Dey 1404 protests. It is not a complete list and it does not produce a final toll.
What does the site’s number mean?
It is only the count of names recorded here with a source. It is not an estimate of everyone killed.
Why does your number differ from other sources?
The blackout, pressure on families, different definitions of “killed in the protests”, and different methods of checking all produce different figures. We do not hide that, and we do not average them.
Why is my relative not here?
The name may not yet have a source we can check, it may be waiting to be matched, or a family may have asked for it to be hidden. You can send it through the form.
Why does one person appear twice?
If a match is not certain, both rows stay until a person reviews them. An uncertain merge is not done automatically.
Why is there no photograph?
A photograph is saved only when it comes from a page already about that person, on a source the site allows. Photographs are never searched by name.
What do tiers A, B and C mean?
A: at least two independent lists. B: one rights organisation or news list. C: a family report or several linked posts. D: not yet verified — shown, clearly marked, so people can help, and not included in any count until a recognised human rights organisation verifies it.
Is the government’s list confirmation?
No. If a name is also on that list, the record says so. The list never confirms a person on its own.
Do you use AI?
AI tools help us find leads, standardise spellings, flag possible duplicates and draft translations of the site. A name that comes only from an AI-compiled list is shown as D, marked as an AI lead, so people can help confirm or correct it. It is never counted and never moves up a tier unless a recognised human rights organisation verifies it.
How do I correct a mistake or ask for a removal?
Use the submission form. If you are inside Iran, do not leave contact details. A request to hide a record is reviewed, and the record can be taken off the public site while that happens.
Why are there two calendars?
Persian pages show dates in the Iranian calendar; the other languages use the Gregorian calendar. 8 and 9 January 2026 are 18 and 19 Dey 1404.
Is it safe to use this site from inside Iran?
You do not need an account or an email address to read the site, and we do not store raw IP addresses. Even so, use a VPN if you can, and never send anything that could identify you.
Where do the videos come from?
Some were filmed by protesters and witnesses on the streets; others are documentaries. Each video links to where it was first published.
